Teenage swimmers Gaurika Singh and Joanna Lama have set national record in the selection heats of their respective events on the first day of National Swimming Championships on Thursday.
Singh, 14, broke the record of 32.06 seconds set by Sohia Shah during the 7th edition of National Games to set a new record of 29.4 seconds in the primary round of 50 metre butterfly. The youngest Olympian now has personally broken 28 records and has entered the finals of 50m butterfly and 200m freestyle.
Likewise, 12-year-old Lama set a new record time of 3 minutes 07.22 seconds to break Bividha Rimal’s 11 year record 3 minutes 12.85 seconds set during Colombo South Asian Games in 2006. With this, Lama has entered the finals of the event.
Singh is representing Nepal Army Club while Lama is the star swimmer of Armed Police Force Club.
